The Phoenix is a symbol of high virtue
and grace, of power and prosperity. The phoenix was a fabulous
mythical bird with brilliant scarlet and gold plumage and
a melodious cry. It was said that only one phoenix existed
at any one time and it was very long-lived with a life-span
of nearly 500 years. As the phoenix nears its end, it makes
a nest of aromatic branches and spices, sets it on fire, and
is consumed in the flames. From the ashes a new phoenix is
born.
